Suitable for
children, pushchairs, bikes

Dobříš Chateau lies about 19 km from Orlov as the crow flies. It makes a good half-day trip for anyone who enjoys historic interiors and gardens, and with children the park is a good place for a longer walk.

A bit of history

The estate was bought by Bruno Mansfeld in 1630. The Baroque chateau was almost destroyed by fire in 1720, and Jindřich Pavel Mansfeld gave it its present Rococo appearance between 1745 and 1765. The marriage of the family heiress to František Gundakar Colloredo founded the Colloredo-Mannsfeld family, who lived here until 1942. After the war the chateau served as a retreat for writers, and in 1998 it was returned to the family.

What you will see

The chateau has a modern historical exhibition. Behind it, a 2-hectare French garden descends in terraces, with statues and the Watering of the Horses of Helios fountain. At its far end stands the orangery with a large trompe-l'oeil painting and themed exhibitions. Beyond it lies a 30-hectare English-style park from the 19th century.

Good to know

The chateau is privately owned by the Colloredo-Mannsfeld family. Check the tour routes and garden access in advance, as the French garden may be closed for events and pets are not allowed in it. The English-style park is open all year. Current opening hours and admission prices are listed on the chateau's website.
