A loop from Orlov to one of the most visited summits in the Brdy hills and the Kazatelna rock viewpoint.

A trip to the waterscape of the Slapy reservoir and viewpoints above the Vltava. Choose your destination by distance.
The Slapy dam on the Vltava is about 38 km from Orlov. The reservoir stretches roughly 43 km upstream between wooded and partly rocky slopes. You can come here for a swim, a boat trip or a view; choose your destination by how far you want to drive.
The dam is 260 metres long and more than 60 metres high. There are several viewpoints above the reservoir. The Rabyně viewpoint near Nová Rabyně is easy to reach and usually has a refreshment stand in summer. From the Máj viewpoint near Teletín you can see the Vltava curving into a horseshoe in a deep rocky valley. The Na Vrchovnici viewpoint near Blažim also gives a fine view of the water.
In summer people come here to swim, sail, water-ski and windsurf. Rowing boats and pedal boats can be hired at Nová Rabyně and Nová Živohošť, for example, and sightseeing boats run on the reservoir.
Preparatory work began in 1949 and the dam was opened in November 1954. The reservoir flooded the Svatojánské proudy, a well-known stretch of rapids on the Vltava. In July 1954, while the reservoir was still being filled, a hundred-year flood filled it. Slapy is part of the Vltava cascade and is used for flood protection and power generation.
The road across the dam has been closed since March 2026 for bridge repairs, and the closure is planned to last until the end of 2027. Diversions run via the bridge at Štěchovice or the bridge between Chotilsko and Nebřich. Recreation on the reservoir is not affected. Check the current status of the closure before you travel.
