A masonry lookout tower on the highest point of the Hřebeny ridge. Whether you can climb it depends on current conditions and opening times.
Studený vrch (660 m) is the highest point of the Hřebeny ridge in the north-eastern part of the Brdy hills. It lies about 3.5 km south-east of Hostomice and 7 km north-west of Dobříš, roughly 16 km from Orlov. A masonry lookout tower stands on the summit. Allow about an hour and a half for the trip.
On a clear day the gallery offers views of the Křivoklát hills, the Ore Mountains with Klínovec, Milešovka and Říp in the České středohoří, Karlštejn Castle, Bezděz and Ještěd. To the south-east you look over Dobříš and the Česká Sibiř area, and in ideal conditions you can see as far as Boubín in the Šumava mountains.
The 17.5-metre masonry tower was built in 1940 for land surveying. Nine similar towers were built in the Czech Republic, and this is the only one that was repaired and opened to visitors as a lookout tower. 81 steps lead up to the viewing gallery.
The tower is looked after by local associations and is only open on certain days. Whether you can climb it depends on current conditions; current opening times are on the place's website. You can leave your car in Malý Chlumec, for example.
