A museum of rural buildings showing how people lived, farmed and built in the villages of the central Vltava region.
The open-air museum lies in the valley of the Libíňský stream on the northern edge of Vysoký Chlumec, about 32 km east of Orlov as the crow flies. It is part of the Příbram Mining Museum and is a good destination for families with children.
Around twenty rural buildings that were at risk of disappearing from their original sites have been moved here. They include farmhouses from nearby villages, barns, granaries, a smithy, a beehouse, a water mill from Radešice dating from 1792 and a water-powered sawmill. The interiors show how people in the countryside lived and farmed from the mid-17th to the early 20th century, with furniture, folk costume and tools. You can explore the site with a guide or on your own.
Work on the museum began in 1999, the first house was moved here a year later and it opened to visitors in 2002. The last buildings were added in 2019–2021. The house from Mašov dates from 1738.
Parking is free and part of the site is wheelchair accessible. Events such as a crafts day and Christmas at the museum take place during the year. Vysoký Chlumec Castle above the village is not open to the public. Current opening hours and admission prices are on the museum website.
